Ruwanwelisaya & Sri Maha Bodhi
Visit the sacred Ruwanwelisaya, also known as the Great Stupa in Anuradhapura,Sri Lanka. Built in 140 B.C. by King Dutugemunu, it is believed to enshrine the relics of Lord Buddha. The temple draws religious devotees from around the world. Set a few steps away from the stupa, is the Sri Maha Bodhi, a sacred fig tree that is considered to be the oldest planted tree in the world dating to the 3rd century BC. Believed to be a sapling from tree that the Buddha attained enlightenment in Buddha Gaya, India, this enormous tree is not to be missed.

You can travel to Ritigala via private vehicle, bus, train or a tuk-tuk. If you require transport to be arranged to and from our hotel, please get in touch with our team.
Visit in the early mornings or late afternoons or evenings. Do remember to carry ample water, and a sun hat and don’t forget to apply sunscreen if you’re visiting during the day.
